Handicap Reimbursement Program

Recover workers' compensation costs when a pre-existing condition contributes to an employee's claim — a valuable but often overlooked Ohio BWC benefit.

What Is the Handicap Reimbursement Program?

Ohio's Handicap Reimbursement Program allows employers to apply for reimbursement from the Ohio BWC when a pre-existing physical or mental condition — known as a "handicap" — contributed to the severity or cost of a workers' compensation claim.

When an injured worker's pre-existing condition causes a claim to be more costly than it otherwise would have been, the employer should not bear that full financial burden. The BWC recognizes this and provides reimbursement to offset the excess costs attributable to the pre-existing condition.

Ohio Professional Claims Management identifies eligible claims, gathers the necessary medical documentation, and manages the entire application process on your behalf — ensuring you recover every dollar you're entitled to.
